Is Taylor Swift entering a new style era?

This all-black look is kind of giving J.Law, actually.

You would never call Taylor Swift a particularly edgy dresser. She’s always been more of a floral-pattern-and-lipstick kind of girl. Which is why I was a little surprised to see the singer-songwriter-director-master-of-masters step out of Electric Lady studios in this black-on-black ’fit.

On September 5 photographers caught Swift in New York City wearing a black mesh tank top tucked into wide-leg black trousers with a pair of chunky black boots. She’d ditched her usual ponytail for two braided pigtails worn with a Ralph Lauren baseball cap. On the Girl Next Door SpectrumTM, Swift’s style tends to land dead center, but this look suggests the girl in question skateboards and smokes weed and listens to Metallica.

What I'm saying is it's a bit of a departure from the sweet, girly looks Swift has been rocking this summer. I’m used to seeing Taylor in corset tops, flowery sundresses, and the occasional pair of butterfly-embellished jeans. This whole vibe in general, and the pigtail braids in particular, is giving me flashbacks to some of Jennifer Lawrence’s off-duty looks. In October of 2022, for instance, Lawrence wore pigtails and a baseball cap to take her baby for a walk in NYC. Lawrence also wore pigtails and a cap back in May, per The Zoe Report.

Is Taylor Swift taking fashion cues from J.Law now? Is she about to start a new girl squad? Watch this space.
